Fritz Syberg and Johannes Larsen

Fritz and Anna Syberg moved to Kerteminde in 1902, and the two artist friends, Fritz Syberg and Johannes Larsen, put the area on the map in the art world. Especially the dramatic nature on Fyns Hoved and the farm landscape northwest of Kerteminde was immortalized by Syberg, while Larsen in particular depicted the maritime motifs and landscapes, his and Alhed’s artist home, and of course the birds. In the collection we show many of Fritz Syberg and Johannes Larsen’s main works.

Christine and Sigurd Swane

Johannes Larsen’s sister, Christine, became an artist like her brother. In 1910 she married the painter Sigurd Swane, and although the two divorced again in 1920, it is under the name Christine Swane that she is today known as one of Denmark’s first female modernists. The two artists settled for a period in Kerteminde. Together they had a son, Lars Swane, whose works are also represented at the museum.
