Alhed and Johannes Larsen created a home around them, which became a central meeting place for contemporary artists, family and friends

During the winter and spring of 2025, the Johannes Larsen Museum will present a special exhibition featuring painters Ulrik Møller and Allan Otte, two prominent contemporary artists who, in their own ways, center their work around the landscape.

2025 marks the 100th anniversary of Johannes Larsen’s journey to Greenland, where in 1925 he participated in a bird expedition along part of the Greenlandic west coast. The anniversary provides a perfect opportunity to once again turn our attention to Greenland.

The Workshops

The atelier building was constructed in 1916-17. It has since been renamed “The Workshop” and has access to the idyllic winter garden.

Art pieces by Johannes Larsen, Fritz Syberg, John Olsen, and Christine Swane are displayed in the beautiful exhibition halls.

Rylen: The old expediton boat

At the harbor in Kerteminde, you can visit the renowned ship “Rylen,” the boat Johannes Larsen embarked on an expedition to Denmark’s islands in the 1920s. During the summer months, the ship is occasionally out on new expeditions.

Delve into the captivating art of portrait painting as we open the Schoolroom and begin working at the easels. Using oil on canvas, we will draw inspiration from the current special exhibition, “Fritz Syberg. Særudstillingen Rylen i Limfjorden viser nutidige billedkunstnere og forfatteres fortolkninger af Limfjordsegnens natur- og kulturlandskab i et historisk kølvand.

Fra den 11. november inviterer vi indenfor til pyntede jule og -festborde på Johannes Larsen Museet. På museet kender vi hjemligheden og gæstfriheden fra kunstnerhjemmet i Johannes og Alheds tid.
