The scenery in and around Kerteminde is stunning. That was also the opinion of Johannes Larsen and certain other painters. Nature is an overriding theme at the Johannes Larsen Museum. In our exhibitions, activities and events, nature often plays a major role.

The garden around Johannes and Alhed Larsen’s home was intended to provide motifs for art. So in the large garden they created space for rare trees and plants, and birds and animals. There was also an extensive vegetable garden.

Johannes Larsen referred to his studio as his ‘workshop’. It was here he created a large number of his major and well-known works. Right next to Johannes Larsen’s studio is the smaller workshop of Alhed Larsen. Both studios have direct access to Alhed’s beautiful conservatory.

I had never seen such a perfect place. The rare combination of art, nature, peace and beauty. Amazing exhibition and friendly staff. What's not to like?

In Kerteminde you will find a fantastic art museum. It is built around the pictures from the Group "The Funen painters", notably Johannes Larsen and Fritz Syberg and their contemporaries. Besides the permanent exhibition, they arrange exhibitions of fine art. It can be old painters or new painters. But always a fantastic Collection. And they publish catalogues or even books with every new exhibition. So if you visit Denmark, make sure to go to Kerteminde and see the Johannes Larsen Museum. And if you are hungry, they serve excellent food. Especially known for their cakes!
