VIDSYN – New funen art
The special exhibition VIDSYN – New funen art has been created in collaboration with 23 young artist with connections to funen. A shared feature among the artists, is their exploration of the theme of nature. In this context nature should be understood in a broad sense: mythical nature, urban nature, human nature or the moods of the landscape. At the same time the project is also about creating a vibrant artistic community – similar to when Johannes and Alhed Larsen lived and worked at Møllebakken in Kerteminde.
A meeting between generations
At the beginning of the 20th century, young artists travelled to Kerteminde to find inspiration among the Funen Painters. The home of Johannes Larsen and Alhed Larsen became a natural gathering place. From 1909 onwards, artists such as Karl Isakson, Harald Giersing, Oluf Rude, Jens Adolf Jerichau, Svend Havsteen-Mikkelsen, Kurt Jungstedt og Poul Henningsen came to Kerteminde.
At the home of Johannes og Alhed there was room for diversity, good conversations and new ideas. The atmosphere was open and welcoming. In their home, there was an openness to a new way of thinking about art and people. It is a spirit the museum continues to build upon.
The inspiration flowed both ways. The young artists brought new forms of expression with them, broader brush strokes, freer forms, and bold black outlines. It was a time of change – and art was transforming along with it. Much like today.
VIDSYN
In the exhibition you can experience highly relevant contemporary art with nature as its theme. The exhibition also presents a wide range of different media and forms of expression – from performance art to painting. During the exhibition period, guided tours and various events will be organized in connection with the exhibition. Keep an eye on our website for more information. The title encompasses the values reflected in the exhibition: openness, tolerance and a forward-looking perspective. The word also carries a historical weight, pointing back to Johannes and Alhed Larsen’s understanding of art, while at the same time describing the diversity and energy found in the works of the participating contemporary artists.
