SPECIAL EXHIBITION:
Bird 2025
September 13th, 2025, to January 11th, 2026
Exhibition opening on September 12th at 4:00 PM
Art piece: Bramgæs i modlys, Jan Nielsen
Bird art presents a collection of works that exemplify both high quality and remarkable diversity. Bird 2025 captures the current state of contemporary bird art. Artists who incorporate birds into their artistic practice are invited to contribute to a juried exhibition that will highlight the finest examples of modern bird art.
The bird has long been a central motif at Møllebakken in Kerteminde. The renowned painter Johannes Larsen, celebrated for his mastery in drawing and painting birds, earned the title of “The Bird Painter.” The bird continues to be a focal point at Møllebakken, even nearly 40 years after the Johannes Larsen Museum first opened its doors.
Bird Call
On November 1, 2024, the Johannes Larsen Museum will issue a “bird call”—an open invitation for artists to submit works for the juried exhibition. The submission deadline is April 1, 2025. All works must prominently feature birds or be closely related to them. For further details and to submit, please complete the form HERE.
Triennale for Bird Art
Bird 2025 marks the third installment of the triennale for bird art, organized by the Johannes Larsen Museum since 2019. In 2022, 460 artists from Denmark and abroad submitted nearly 1,500 works, from which a jury selected 135 pieces for the exhibition.
Wings of Nature
Johannes Larsen was a dedicated advocate for nature, a legacy that continues at the Johannes Larsen Museum. In connection with Bird 2025, the museum once again partners with the nature project Better BirdLIFE, which focuses on improving conditions for various coastal bird species.
Public Engagement and Activities
To complement the exhibition, the Johannes Larsen Museum will host a series of excursions, events, and activities centered around birds, nature, and art. We aim to engage visitors of Bird 2025 in an active and immersive experience, offering opportunities to explore nature, engage creatively, and contribute their own insights.
